A Unique Or An Unique

A Unique Or An Unique - Which Is Proper?

A unique or An unique
The most common mistake people make when trying to decide whether or not to use a or an is that they look at the first letter of the next word. The determining factor in whether to use a or an is not what the letter of the following word is, but rather the sound that the the first letter of the following word makes.

If the sound made by the first letter of the word is the sound of a vowel, then you use an. If the sound of the first letter is the sound of a consonant, then you should be using a before that word.

That being said, trying to figure out whether a unique or an unique is the proper way to write or speak is a legitimate and common question. A unique is proper.
